NaNoWriMo…what was I thinking?!?

Well, several of my blog friends and a relative or two have convinced me to try my hand at NaNoWriMo.  For those of you who may not know, this is National Novel Writing Month.  When you sign up for this you are foolishly bravely deciding to try your hand at writing a novel in 30 days.  Oh my goodness!  The goal is to produce 50,000 words, hopefully coherent and wonderful, between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30.

I am already procrastinating!  I had a very vague idea for a story when I signed up 3 days ago.  Basically a few characters and a setting, with a thought or two about what would happen if these two characters met.  Something interesting happened once I signed up, though.  After the fear and dread subsided, ideas started flowing and coming together.  I think I have an actual story here!  I actually believe I may be able to do this!  And I refuse to be shown up by my 22-year-old niece who is also trying this 🙂

At midnight on Halloween, I jotted down a short paragraph, just to say I started right at the beginning of November 1.  I believe I put in 23 words.  My NaNoWriMo profile page gave me a handy little report that said if I continue at this rate, I will finish by 2018 🙂  Hopefully, I go a little faster than that.

I was going to say that I would not be blogging for the month, but as I am in full procrastination mode, I will probably post more than ever!  We’ll see.  Wish me luck…away we go!!!

Good for you, Sara! I was thinking, you can have “writing buddies” or something like that on the NaNo website. Maybe all of us bloggers who are WriMos can buddy up 🙂 I’m not sure how it works yet. Good luck!

Good for you, you are far braver than I! Hope you’ll post lots about your novel writing journey and give me some courage to attempt this one day!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m already far behind. You’re supposed to write 1667 words a day and I’ve only got 1700 for the 3 days I’ve done so far. But I’ve got one really good scene under my belt and that’s giving me motivation to go on. You should definitely try it one day 🙂

    Hi Aimee,
I’m NaNo ing, too! (and procrastinating by browsing new blogs!)
I’m behind but I plan to do some catching up this weekend.
How about you? How’s your writing coming?

I gotta say, I’m not doing too well! I’m only at 6200 words and I should be over 15000. But even if I don’t finish, I really like that I’m trying. I’ve never written anything of length before, and even if I don’t finish on time, I will finish this eventually. Add me as a buddy 🙂 My nickname is onewoman365. Good luck catching up!
